    This book is part of a delightful, preschooler-friendly tribute to the seasons. Beginning with the refrain common to each volume, a cheerful child announces, "I know it's spring when...I hear the birds singing when I wake up. It makes me feel like singing too!" Smiling, rosy-cheeked youngsters discover the pleasures of a reawakening world: baby animals, planting seeds, and outdoor play. With language gems like "Funny bugs buzz and butterflies flutter by" and bright, colorful illustrations full of details kids will enjoy pointing out, Ailie Busby's board book is a marvelous introduction to wonders of spring. A personal note: When my 2 1/2-year-old grandson, a budding literary critic, saw this set, he brought me the whole pile to read--and had a wonderful time identifying familiar things in the pictures and providing appropriate sound effects. He gives the book five stars.
