I am Martin Luther King, Jr.
This is a great book about Martin Luther King, Jr. growing up and how he became the amazing man with a dream. The illustrations show Martin as a miniature version of his adult self, complete with a mustache. This book speaks in the first person and is a great biography of Martin’s life. Definitely worth reading to your littles!
Martin’s Big Words: The Life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
This is one of the best books I have read about King. It is perfect for kids! While some younger children may not understand everything, it is definitely worth the read. It has quotes and information about Martin’s life from the beginning through his death. I did change the last page of the book a bit for my kids. Instead of saying that Martin was ‘shot and killed’, I changed it to ‘died fighting for peace and love.’ I personally thought ‘shot and killed’ was a little graphic for my age group.
I Have a Dream
I absolutely love this book. The message and illustrations and amazing. I Have a Dream is an illustrated book of King’s ‘I Have a Dream’ speech. Very powerful and a great read for children.
My First Biography: Martin Luther King, Jr.
This is a great book for introducing young children to Martin Luther King, Jr. It has great illustrations and a simple story of Martin’s life. It helps inspire children to change the world. A beautiful story.
My Daddy, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
This is a great book about Martin’s life from the perspective of his son. It teaches the history of King while also focusing on his family. It’s a great read with beautiful illustrations.
Let the Children March
I love this story so much. In 1963, children were learning about Dr. Martin’s message and how he was planning a march. It shows the impact that segregation had on the children and their brave decision to march to make a change.
